Here’s what your colleagues are saying about SHRM! The following SHRM members were briefly interviewed and asked a few questions about their SHRM experiences.

    · Rickey Davis, PHR; Human Resources Manager, BASF Catalysts, LLC in Jackson, MS

    · Yvonne Noisette; Program Leader, Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC

    · Mary Beth Hopkins, PHR; Office Administrator, Alexander Electric Co. in Columbus, GA

    · Barbara Flynn, SPHR; President, People First, Inc. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Question: How does SHRM increase satisfaction in helping with your HR career goals?

Rickey Davis, PHR: SHRM has increased my satisfaction by giving me more credibility as an HR expert in my organization. SHRM taught me the fundamentals of human resources management as well how to use a sound evaluation system that allowed my organization to integrate employees’ perceptions, program results, and strategic/tactical plans. SHRM has given me the tools to be more confident when making decisions.

Yvonne Noisette: SHRM provides tools such as webcasts on topics important to me in my career such as HR consulting, diversity, and a host of other topics including the salary survey.

Mary Beth Hopkins, PHR: Being a member of SHRM and gaining the knowledge that SHRM has afforded me has allowed my career to excel.

Barbara Flynn, SPHR: It’s a great resource of HR information that I use on a daily basis. I learn from it every day, which gives me the confidence in knowing that I am providing superior service to my employees and clients.

Question: What can SHRM do to give you more of an edge in your career?

Rickey Davis, PHR: SHRM should continue to educate senior management about the value of certified HR professionals and how we can become strategic partners of the business. I would also like to see SHRM provide local educational seminars and workshops.

Yvonne Noisette: SHRM can offer additional programs through the local colleges on topics which will go into much more depth than the SHRM Learning System as the next phase. Many sitting for the PHR/SPHR work in one aspect of HR and a more in-depth program on some of those programs which would be great if tied to SHRM as the Learning Systems and Essentials of HR.

Mary Beth Hopkins, PHR: SHRM can continue to keep us abreast of the latest laws and initiatives that are upcoming in all areas that effect employers and their employees.

Barbara Flynn, SPHR: SHRM can continue bringing the HR profession to the forefront of the business world through constant media exposure that promotes the profession.

Question: How does SHRM assist you with your day-to-day work needs?

Rickey Davis, PHR: SHRM assists me with my tactical duties by saving me time when I am researching HR information and helps me find answers to specific HR questions. SHRM also helps me stay current on HR trends. SHRM has helped me access resources such as sample policies, procedures, and tools that will keep our business growing.

Yvonne Noisette: I was not aware of on the resources available on the website until Shelly Prochaska, Manager of the Southeast Region, shared with our local SHRM chapter many of the available resources such as the HR Career Guide.

Mary Beth Hopkins, PHR: SHRM provides me with just about all the resources and knowledge base I need at my finger tips via the web and through networking with fellow SHRM members.

Barbara Flynn, SPHR: SHRM has a huge resource of information that enables us to do our jobs. I couldn’t live without SHRM.
